BBL: The Treatment I Thought Would Sting (But Secretly Enjoyed)
If you read Part One of My Radiance Reset, you’ll know this whole journey started with a simple intention:
Not to look younger.
But to look well.
Strong. Clear. Energised. Luminous.
The first step in my personalised KAILO skin protocol was Hydrasilk - the beautiful deep-clean-and-hydrate treatment that left my skin feeling fresh, calm and incredibly clear.
But the real transformation work?
That begins with the next stage of the plan.
Enter: BBL (BroadBand Light).
And I’ll admit something before we go any further.
I was a little nervous.
The Expectation vs The Reality
During my consultation, my practitioner Kumi explained exactly what BBL would do for my skin.
She walked me through how the technology targets pigmentation, redness and uneven tone while stimulating collagen and improving overall skin clarity.
It all sounded fantastic.
But as anyone who’s researched laser or light-based treatments knows — verbal explaining and actually experiencing it are two very different things.
In my mind I had prepared for:
• heat
• redness
• swelling
• dark patches appearing immediately
• possibly needing to hide indoors for a few days
In short… I expected it to feel a little confronting.
Instead?
The whole experience was about a million times more enjoyable than I had prepared myself for.
First, What BBL Actually Does
BBL stands for BroadBand Light - an advanced form of light therapy used to improve overall skin health and appearance.
At KAILO, it’s used to target things like:
• sun damage
• pigmentation
• redness and broken capillaries
• uneven tone
• dullness
• early signs of ageing
But what makes BBL particularly exciting is that it doesn’t just treat what you can see on the surface.
Research has shown it can actually stimulate gene expression associated with younger, healthier skin cells.
In practical terms, that means it helps:
• clear unwanted pigment
• calm redness
• stimulate collagen production
• improve skin tone and clarity
• restore brightness and luminosity
It’s less about quick fixes and more about teaching your skin to function better again.
Which aligns perfectly with my philosophy for this whole journey.
The Experience (Real Talk)
From the moment the treatment began, I noticed something that has become a bit of a theme with KAILO.
It doesn’t feel like a clinical procedure.
It feels like luxury care that happens to include advanced medical technology.
My skin was first cleansed slowly and intentionally - soothing strokes, calm energy, no rushing. The room itself was softly lit with beautiful music playing in the background.
Yes, the equipment is medical-grade.
But the experience is nurturing.
And that combination matters more than people realise.
Feeling relaxed and safe when you’re having a facial procedure changes everything. Your nervous system isn’t bracing for discomfort. Your body stays calm. Your skin responds better.
I’m convinced this made the whole experience significantly more enjoyable.
The Sensation
Let’s address the part everyone wants to know.
Did it hurt?
I was more sensitive on one side of my face than the other, but honestly – for most part – I’d say the pain was a 4/5 out of 10. The fact that the heat applied is so fast, by the time you register pain, the practitioner is already moving to the next patch of skin and the previous patch no longer hurts. It’s bit bitey in places like around the nose - a little like a tiny elastic band flick with heat behind it. But it’s fast and controlled, and the device uses cooling technology so your skin never feels overwhelmed.
It was far more comfortable than I had expected.
No holding my breath, gripping the bed or silent regret like I’ve had with other treatments elsewhere over the years.
Just short pulses of light and a steadily warming sensation.

Immediately After
This is where my expectations were completely wrong.
I genuinely thought I’d walk out looking like I’d spent an afternoon in harsh sun and wind.
Instead?
My skin looked calm. Slightly flushed, yes - but nothing dramatic.
There was:
• no swelling and no intense redness.
I DID have some darker pigment spots already presenting, but nothing that I would be self conscious about in public. AND I’m told that was the response we were looking for.
Downtime for me: zero.
Of course everyone’s skin responds slightly differently, and sometimes pigmentation can darken in the days following treatment as it begins to clear.
But in my case, Kumi reassured me my skin had responded beautifully and we were exactly where we wanted to be in terms of progress. As I write this, I am already one week following treatment. I have had a very small amount of skin flaking and I noticed a few of the dark spots that came out first, have ‘miraculously disappeared!’.
Why I’ll Be Having Three Sessions
BBL isn’t designed to be a one-off miracle moment.
Its real magic happens through a series of treatments.
I’ll be having three sessions spaced 4 weeks apart as part of my Radiance Reset.
Each session builds on the previous one, gradually:
• reducing pigmentation
• calming redness
• stimulating collagen
• improving skin clarity
It’s a progressive approach to skin health rather than a quick fix.
And honestly, that suits me perfectly.
What I Loved Most
While the technology is impressive, the thing that made the biggest difference to my experience was the environment.
Having BBL at KAILO felt less like a procedure and more like a beautifully curated ritual.
From the way my skin was cleansed with intention… to the calming music… the soft lighting… the comfort of the treatment room… and the delicious tea afterwards.
It was nurturing.
And when you’re having treatments that involve heat and light energy, that sense of calm goes a long way.
Relaxed body. Calm nervous system. Better recovery.
That’s not just a feeling … it’s physiology.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve been curious about BBL but quietly worried about pain, redness or downtime - I completely understand.
I had the same concerns.
But my experience?
Comfortable. Professional. Refined. And surprisingly relaxing.
Five stars. Would absolutely recommend.
Next in My Radiance Reset
In the next part of this series, we continue the journey as the results from the first treatments begin to build. I get to experience the treatment I am MOST looking forward to.
Face Up …. If you haven’t heard about this yet, you’re going to want to stay tuned. I’m in for a deep tissue facial massage that promises to lift, tone and refresh the muscles for a gentle botox look, but without the needles and toxins.
In the meantime, if you’ve been sitting on the fence about skin treatments that will truly make a difference for yourself, I highly recommend booking a consultation, today.
And please tell KAILO it was reading my blog that sent you.
I’ll consider that the ultimate five-star review 😊
Love,
Kim
